St. Joseph SMART Program Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is S.M.A.R.T.?
S.M.A.R.T. stands for Scrip/Manna And Reduce Tuition. It is a partnership between school and religious education families as well as parishioners that benefits the parish, school, religious education program.
Why does S.M.A.R.T. exist?
SMART is a major fundraiser (no extra cost to you) for St. Joseph School which assists families with tuition.
How does it work?
You pay, for example, $10 and receive a $10 gift card. The retailer offers a discount percentage which is split between the school and the participating family. If a retailer is offering a 5% discount, the school receives 2.5% of the purchase price and the participating family receives 2.5% credit to their tuition. Families must meet their $150 fundraising goal first.
What do I do with the gift card?
Shop as you normally would. Retailers readily accept the gift cards. These cards are also a wonderful idea for birthdays, anniversaries and especially Christmas and holidays.
What stores are available?
Berkots, Jewel, Speedway, Shell, Kohl’s, Culvers, Visa cards plus many, many more. See the SMART order form for a complete listing.
What’s special about Kohl’s gift cards?
You can shop at Kohl’s using your store credit card. Then when you get your bill, order gift cards from SHOP. Next time you’re shopping there, pay your bill at any register with the gift cards. Gift cards can only be used to pay your bill directly in the store.
What happens if I don’t use the card right away?
Gift cards do not have an expiration date, so can be used at any future time.
Why should I use SMART if I don’t have a child at St. Joseph School?
Several reasons:
-You can earn credit toward any other educational tuition
(ex. high school, college - either public or private)
-You can donate your credit to the School or any school family’s tuition.
How do I get started?
Complete the Family Information Sheet (available through school), fill out your order form and either attend a sale or submit your envelope order to the SMART, and return to the school office.
